Nibmeister Matthew Chen (Matthew's Nibworks) will be joining us at The Outpost in Pioneer Square on Friday July 17th and Saturday July 18th from 10AM to 7PM to tune or grind your nibs to your liking. Enhance your writing experience by choosing from the services listed below.
To reserve your slot, we require a $40 deposit. At your appointment, the $40 deposit will be applied toward your nib work. Sales tax paid at booking is not part of the service credit (see Example Scenarios below to see how the $40 credit works).
This is a rare nibmeister visit to Seattle, so you won't want to miss out!
Appointments are 20 minutes long, and you can pay for multiple services within this timeframe, depending on the extent of the grind / adjustment (Matthew says he usually can get through three pens in 20 minutes). Please make sure that the pens that you are getting work done on are not inked.
Appointments are non-refundable and cannot be canceled or rescheduled. Please ensure you can attend before booking. If you miss your appointment, your deposit will be forfeited.
When you order, make sure the quantity selected is 1 as there is only one unit available per stock, even if you have multiple pens, the booking is for the time slot and NOT for the number of pens.
We will have a waiting list each day, but services can't be guaranteed.
Service Pricing Per Pen
- General Adjustment (Tune / Smooth) - $40
- Standard Grinds (Size Reduction, Cursive Italic, Italic, Obliques) - $60
- Specialty Grinds (Japanese F, UEF, Architect, Needlepoint, Special Requests, etc...) - $80
- Nagahara Specialty Grinds (Kodachi, Uranagi, Fude Point, Beak Point) - $100
Example Scenarios
- You just want one pen tuned by Matthew.
- During your appointment, he will tune your one pen. The cost is $40 plus tax for the tuning service but since you already paid $40 plus tax for the deposit, you will not owe anything.
- You want two nibs ground to an italic and another nib ground to a Kodachi.
- During your appointment, Matthew will grind your three pens and the total cost will be $180 plus tax ($60+$60+$100 MINUS your $40 credit). Without the credit, your total would have been $220 + tax.
- You want three nibs smoothed.
- During your appointment, Matthew will smooth three of your nibs for a total cost of $80 plus tax ($40+$40+$40 MINUS your $40 credit). Without the credit, your total cost on that day would have been $120 plus tax.
